Cooking with Clive

Clive found boldfood.com on blogcatalog and requested to be a friend, which isn’t uncommon in and of itself, but after checking out his career, one of his videos (with a great tip!), and his Website, Cooking with Clive, I’m happy to pump up his site! Clive has been training to be a world-class chef since he was a young child. He’s made it, although he’s not as well known as many of the others.

Jamie Oliver Close Up

This visit with Jamie Oliver by New Zealand TV gives us a glimpse into what makes this special chef unique. His garden is to die for and has provided inspiration for me to give my own garden a try once again. He offers some important advice on how to put together a great salad as he effortlessly pulls together what is certainly a delicious and unique salad.
Even more special then his food is his heart. In 2002, he combined his two ambitions: to open a top class restaurant and to give disadvantaged youngsters a chance to gain professional culinary training. Five years later, Fifteen is still achieving both, improving and expanding all the time.

Above: One of the fifteen success stories.

Bobby Flay the Super Chef
January 19, 2008 by Bold Foodie · Leave a Comment
Like so many teenagers Bobby Flay had big dreams along with unspoiled confidence and optimism. Unlike most teens, however, Bobby didn’t let “reality” deter him or steer him off course. He seized on a couple of key opportunities offered to him in his early years and parlayed them into a “Bobby Flay empire”. He is perhaps one of the most famous chefs in the United States at the moment. His net worth is rumored to be over $20 million… who knows.
For what it’s worth I’m pretty sure money
wasn’t the fuel behind his strong drive. I think his fuel was driven by a deep desire; to be successful, to win, to conquer. One thing is for sure and that is that his passion to be the very best at his chosen profession has allowed him to succeed.
He could be called the Brett Favre of chefs. The main difference between Brett and Bobby is that Brett is praised and liked by all whereas Bobby Flay, with his New Yorker personality, has rubbed a few prissy types the wrong way and they’re not shy about voicing their opinion. But, underneath that thick-skinned New Yorker, that chose to cook over playing sports, there is undoubtedly a special kid who is realizing his dream.

Famous Chef Biographies

Out of curiosity I did a search on Biography.com for ‘famous chef’ and I was quite surprised that the search resulted in 961 listings. This link Famous Chefs will generate the same search for you and you won’t be surprised to see Julia Child
heading up the list in the number one spot. She was one of a kind.
PBS put together a nice memoriam here: Julia Child Memoriam.
“Julia Child’s legacy to America is felt nowhere more strongly than at PBS,” said Pat Mitchell, President and CEO of PBS. “When it all began on WGBH, Boston’s public television station, in 1962, no one had ever done a cooking show on television. But Julia set a standard for far more than a genre that has grown exponentially ever since. She made sophisticated cooking techniques accessible while promoting the art of cooking to men and women alike. She was a funny, witty and debonair character who charmed all who knew her – even if just by her television appearances. We’re honored to have had her as part of the PBS family and we will cherish her memory.”
The video below is of an interview she gave in which she discusses her life. It’s less than 5 minutes and well worth watching this culinary pioneer.

Murphy’s Ice Cream and Their Blog
November 9, 2007 by Bold Foodie · Leave a Comment
Murphy’s Ice Cream is the best tasting ice cream I never tasted! Just 5 minutes on their Website and I’m convinced I need to fly over to Ireland and give it a try right away.

Ireland’s Best
Brothers Sean and Kieran Murphy started Murphys Ice Cream in Kerry Ireland in 2000, with the goal of making the best ice cream in the world. If pictures are worth a thousand taste buds then they may have succeeded. If you’re on the left-side of the pond as I am then you’ll need to fly to Ireland to try it out because they’re keeping it to themselves and their neighbors for now.Three things about this Irish ice cream company struck me:
- Their original mission to create the best ice cream in the world is clearly conveyed in the excellent photos on their main website and their blog.
- Sharing their recipes for all to see on their blog is merciful for those of us across this suddenly cruel ocean.
- They’ve managed to pack their Murphy’s personality into just a few pages for the world to see online. Not only does their ice cream look addictive, but they look like the kind of people who can make a living making (and eating) ice cream without pissing us off.
For their recipes check out their blog: Ice Cream Ireland.
Cheers Sean and Kieran! I’ll be there soon enough to try out your ice cream.

Just look at these brothers. They need a vacation!
